Muzaffarnagar, Jul 16 (UNI) Two 'supari' (contractual) killers were shot dead in an encounter with police in Nai Mandi area of the district on Tuesday morning.
In the encounter, two policemen, including a Sub-Inspector, were also injured.
Police here said the encounter took place at around 0500 hrs on Bilaspur road.
The deceased criminals were identified as Rohit Sandhu and Rakesh Yadav. UP police had announced a reward of Rs one lakh on Rohit, a native of Muzaffarnagar and Rs 50,000 on Rakesh, a native of Ayodhya.
Two pistols and a motorcycle were recovered from their possession.
The injured -- Sub-Inspector Ajay Kumar and constable Vinit Kapasia -- have been rushed to the hospital.
On June 2, Rohit had escaped from the police custody. Sub-Inspector from Mirzapur, Durg Vijay Singh, who was accompanying gangster Rohit, was shot at by assailants who helped the criminal escape.
The injured Sub Inspector later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
