2-day strike of Patwaris begins, cripples revenue work in Punjab

Jalandhar, Dec 13 (UNI) Two day strike of the patwaris which began from today crippled the revenue work in the tehsil offices across Punjab.
Punjab Patwar Union local unit president Dheera Singh said the government had been ignoring the genuine demands of the patwaris including promotions in the service on 4-9-14 basis besides providing basic amenities in the tehsil complexes for the patwaris.
He said the government had been harassing the patwaris on one count or the other which forced patwaris to resent by holding protest rallies and observing strike. He said that the cases registered against the patwaris and kanungos should be immediately withdrawn.
Meanwhile the patwaris of Jalandhar left for Bathinda to join the patwaris agitation there to show solidarity following the ongoing row between the Bathinda Deputy Commissioner and the patwaris over the alleged indecent behavior meted out to the patwaris by the Deputy Commissioner.
The people felt harassed on Thursday due to the strike by the patwaris as they were unable to get their works from the revenue officers done. The people have to wait till Monday for their official works when the patwaris would join their duty after the two day strike is called off.
