1st Test day 3: Ishant's 3/21 restricts England to 86/6 at Lunch

Birmingham, Aug 3 (UNI) It was brilliant bowling from pacer Ishant Sharma 3/21 that put brakes on England batting and restricted the hosts to 86/6 at Lunch after 30.4 overs at the end of first session on day 3 against India here on Friday.
Continuing with overnight score of 9/1 It was Ashwin who then took wickets of Jennings 8, skipper Joe Root 14 and Ishant Sharma too was at his best taking three wickets of Malan 20, Bairtsow 28 and then Stokes 6 dismantling English batting line-up.
England lead by 99 runs with 4 wickets remaining in their second innings.
Jos Buttler 1 was at the crease while Ben Stokes lost his wicket to Ishant Sharma before the lunch was declared. Stokes scored 6 off 13 balls.
England who started their second innings received a blow after opener Alastair Cook was bowled out by Ashwin without scoring a run to the day's final ball as hosts closed on 9-1.
Earlier on day 2 skipper Virat Kohli proved his mettle against English bowlers and scored a brilliant century 149 leaving England missing several chances as the hosts ended the day 2nd with 22 runs ahead on Thursday.
Virat's 149 came off in 225 balls with 22 boundaries.
India piled up 92 runs for their last wicket partnership before Kohli was the last man after being caught off by Stuart Broad at point in Abdul Rashid's spell.
With Kohli's dismissal England gained 13-run first innings lead after they bowled out tourists for 274.
For India Ishant's 3/21 after 6.4 overs with an economy of 3.15 was at his best and Ashwin's 3/34 after 15 overs with 4 maidens with economy of 2.26.
