19 more BSF tests positive, random testing on in Meghalaya

Shillong, Jul 15 (UNI) Nineteen more troopers of the Border Security Force (BSF),

Meghalaya Frontier were tested positive for COVID-19 taking active cases up to

289 in Meghalaya as on Wednesday morning, a health official said.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Alexander Laloo Hek said that health authorities

have started conducting random testings in Nongmynsong, Umpling, Mawpat,

Langkyrding villages surrounding the BSF Meghalaya Frontier Headquarters.

“We are conducting the random test basically to ascertain if there is any community

transmission of COVID-19 since there are BSF troopers who are residing in these

areas,” Hek told UNI.

Giving the breakup of COVID-19 cases district wise, Director Health Services (MI),

Dr. Aman War informed that East Khasi Hills District has 255 positive cases, of

which 198 are BSF troopers, four other armed forces personnel and 53 civilians.

While Ri-Bhoi district has 19 active cases, West Garo Hills nine, East Jaintia Hills

and South Garo Hills two each and East Garo Hills and North Garo Hills one each.

As on date, 46 persons have recovered from the viral infection in the state, which

has registered two deaths due to the disease, he said.
