Bahraich, Jul 2 (UNI) As many as 17 foreigners, who were associated with the Tablighi Jamaat event and arrested during the lockdown, were released after about three months on Thursday.
They had been booked at the Kotwali Nagar.
Police sources here said that the nationwide lockdown had been imposed on March 25. During this time, 21 foreigners who were related to the Tablighi Jamaat event, were staying at a Mosque of Qureshi and Satkuan in Mohalla Bashirganj. Police had received information that some Indonesia and Thailand nationals were residing in the Mosque. After registering a case against them, police sent them to jail.
Four Indian nationals among the aforementioned had got immediate bail while 17 foreign nationals were in jail and their bail was accepted by the Chief Judicial Magistrate after about three months.
They were later ordered to be released. Jail Superintendent AN Tripathi said that the court has granted bail and after receiving release orders, the 17 foreigners have been released.
