Mumbai, Sep 24 (UNI) Sixteen people died during Ganpati idol immersion proceedings in Maharashtra, as thousands of devotees bid adieu to the elephant-headed God Lord Ganesha in various corners of the state.
Of these 16, a total of three were each from Junnar and Jalna districts.
The deceased were identified as Amol Ranmule, Nihal Chaudhari (26) and Shekhar Badnekar (20), residents of Lakkadkot city in Jalna, police said.
In Mumbai, one perosn, Jignesh Mayurekar (32) drowned in Bhandupeshwar pond.
Meanwhile, the boat tragedy was averted here at Girgaon Chowpaty, while immersion process of Lalbaug cha Raja was going on. Though, the boat was capsized, but all of them were rescued by life saver. While, the
injured persons, including women and children, are being treated at government run Nayra hospital here.
In Nashik, one Chetan Borade (22) resident of Chetna Nagar drowned at Valdevi dam, while a youth aged 19 too lost his life in Indrayani river in Pune. Though he was rescued immediatly,but he was died during the treatment, sources said.
In Junnar taluka, three children were drowned. And in Buldhana district, two persons, Mahadev Taktode and
Purushottam Solake, who dived in for Ganpati immersion died at Selgaon dam, while two injureds are being treated at nearby hospital, report said.
In Amravati district, one Rahul Nerkar was drowned.
In Satara two persons were died in Krishn river while one in Solapur.
