12 more test positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya

Shillong, Aug 2 (UNI) Twelve more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills District, taking the tally of active cases to 609 till Sunday morning.

“All new positive cases were detected in East Khasi Hills District that includes five BSF and one armed forces personnel and four others,” Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said.

With 506 active cases, including 226 civilians, 223 BSF and 57 armed forces (Army, Assam Rifles) personnel, the East Khasi Hills is the most affected district in the State.

Two more COVID-19 positive patients also recovered in the East Khasi Hills, taking the number of recoveries in the state to 254 as of now, Dr. War further informed.

Emphasising that one has to learn to live a new normal while following the COVID-19 protocols such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing, Dr War said, “It is clear now that we have to live with the virus as the virus is coming. Taking care at home is much better than staying in hospital or corona care centre."

Nearly 95 per cent COVID-19 positive cases are asymptotic, he pointed out, and said, "That is why we have to accept that the virus is coming and we have to learn to live with the virus only by following the protocols. Once we learn to live, we can live normally and take care of ourselves,” he said.
