Srinagar, Jun 20 (UNI) One policeman was killed and two others were injured when militants attacked a police vehicle on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Pulwama late on Wednesday evening.
This is the first militant attack after impositions of Governor’s rule in the state on Wednesday following resignation of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti after BJP pulled out support from PDP-led J&K government on Tuesday.
Official sources told UNI that militants fired at a police vehicle near Galander bypass in Pulwama late on Wednesday evening. “Three policemen were injured in the attack,” they said.
The injured were immediately taken to a local hospital from where they were referred to Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar. However, one of the injured policemen, identified as Tanveer Ahmad, succumbed to his injuries.
They said the militants managed to escape from the spot, adding security forces have been rushed and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers.
