1.2 lakh Railway employees working as running staff benefited

New Delhi, May 29(UNI) As many as 1.2 lakh railway employees working as running staff will be benefited after the acceptance of recommendations of Seventh Pay Commission in 2016 as the long pending demand of category of running staff has now been finalised.
The issue of running allowance admissible to the running staff category was pending finalization for long.
The passenger train drivers and guards, who were earlier getting the allowances at the rate of Rs 253.50 per 100 km now increased to Rs 525. Both the Staff Federations have thanked the Government for fulfillment of long cherished demand, an official statement here on Wednesday said.
Among the various categories of Railway Staff, the category of loco pilots and guards who are commonly known as running staff are an important category. Their job is highly stressful, strenuous and specialized.
The running staff are required to carry out their duties in most arduous conditions putting high mental and physical strain on to them in order to keep running the trains round the clock in all types of weather conditions and all over the Indian Railways network. They have to remain away from their headquarters and family for number of days at a stretch.
After due deliberations with staff side and in consultation with Finance Ministry, this long pending demand of this sensitive category of running staff has now been finalized.
