'Yeh Meri Family' will bring people together: Mona Singh

New Delhi, July 16 (UNI) Known for her iconic character 'Jassi' from 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin', Mona Singh who will be now revisiting 90's era with TVF's web series 'Yeh Meri Family', says the show will bring people together in the time where everyone is stressed out at making money.

Talking to UNI, Mona spoke about the family values and relationships in the modern times.

'People do respect relationships, but I think they do not have the time. Because that is what the relationship needs actually. Everybody is busy around making money, stressed out at work, living in different cities, living away from the family. I think after watching 'Ye Meri Family' people will come close together,' Mona said.

'Today there is anxiety, stress, there is too much travelling, there is no communication, no time. So I am sure when people watch our show, they will call their parents and family,' she said.

Telling about her character, Mona said she is playing the role of a strict mother like all mothers are.

'She makes rules at home. She is the one who is the boss lady at home. She becomes rude sometimes but love her kids at the same time. I love doing that,' she said.

On asking if she relates to her character, Mona said,'A lot of mothers will able to relate to my character that I am playing. I am not a mother yet. So it's a very real mother character like our own mothers. I loved playing it.'

She recently made her digital debut with 'Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain' and played the role of the other woman with conviction. When asked how web is treating her, Mona said,'I am loving this whole new space. This is brilliant for actors who want to do different kind of roles and different kind of content which is not made on TV anymore.'

Mona said she doesn't hesitate taking up such roles like that of 'other woman', 'mother' etc.

'It's all about the characters you play. I love playing different roles,' she said.

When asked her opinion on current TV content, Mona said,'I don't watch TV. I only watch digital. TV should come back to what it was.'

On why she is not doing more fiction shows, Mona said,'I haven't done many fiction shows because I am choosy. I just don't want to be seen on TV because I want to be seen. I want to do good shows. And 'Jassi' being my first show spoiled me. So, I had to only do shows and roles that were best.'

Telling her reason of being choosy, Mona said,'I want to say yes to good content. If there is something interesting, then definitely I will take up fiction shows.'

Mona, who is not so active on social media, said she is a lazy person.

'I don't want to tell people where I am, what I am doing, what I am wearing etc. I feel shy. I like to talk about my work,' she said.

If social media is useful for actors, Mona said,'It just gives you a personal connection with the people. Like my last show was very well received on social media. People were messaging me, appreciateing my work. Back then when I started 'Jassi' in 2003, there was no social media, so I really wonder that there was social media back then too.'

On why popular faces are moving towards digital, the 36-years-old actress said,'Actors want to be a part of good content, production, roles. So digital is the new thing and it is here to stay.'

Mona added that she is open to any content that excites her and challenges her as an actor.

With Mona Singh and Akarsh Khurana playing the roles of the affable parents, the show will surely help 90s kids get a nostalgia fix. The kids are played by Vishesh Bansal (Harshu), Ahan Nirban (Dabbu) and Ruhi Khan (Chitti).

Set in Jaipur over the events of the summer vacation of 1998, 'Yeh Meri Family' follows a seven-episode narrative told from Harshu’s perspective.

The story is set in the Gupta household over the summer vacations of 1998, and each episode revolves around a specific relationship with a character in the family.

The first two episodes will revolve around Harshu and his experiences during summer vacations, especially around tuition classes and his school crush, Vidya.

Adding to the nostalgia, the second episode of the show highlights how mothers strive to make their kid’s birthday the most special day of the year for them.

The series has been created and directed by Sameer Saxena and written by Saurabh Khanna.

The musical notes for the series have been strung together by TVF’s ace music director Vaibhav Bundhoo. Singing legend Udit Narayan has lent his voice to one of the tracks of the show.
