New Delhi, June 16 (UNI) Rising on the Salman Khan charishma, the breathtaking action and the 'Race' franchise, 'Race 3' has taken a rollicking start at the box office in India with earnings of Rs 29.17 cr on its opening day , trade sources said on Saturday.
With collections of RS 29.17 cr, 'Race 3' has become the 11th highest opener in Bollywood, just behind Aamir Khan's 'Dangal' (Rs 29.78 cr).
The opening day collections of 'Race 3' are better than the Hrithik Roshan starrer 'Bang Bang', as also Salman Khan’s other Eid releases 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' [Rs 27.25 crore] and 'Kick' [Rs 26.52 crore].
Trade sources said that the bumper start take by 'Race 3' had put brakes on the dream run enjoyed by films like 'Veere Di Wedding' and 'Parmaanu'.
Following the release of 'Race 3', 'Veere Di Wedding', which stars Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania in key roles , took a dip in its third week.
The pace of the film, which had been on a dream run since its release, has been slackened due to the release of 'Race 3'.
Trade sources said that the film earned a mere Rs 70 lakhs on Friday.
With the audiences turning out in huge number to the theatres to watch 'Race 3', trade sources said that the film could well reach the Rs 100 cr mark by the end of the opening weekend.
Directed by Remo D'Sourza', 'Race 3', starring an ensemble cast of Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Saqib Saleem and Daisy Shah, is the third in the popular 'Race' franchise.
The film has been produced by Salman Khan Films and Ramesh Taurani under the banner of Tips Films.
