'Poetry plays a vital role in preserving and transmitting oral traditions' : Says Mamata

Kolkata, Mar 21 (UNI) ' Poetry plays a vital role in preserving and transmitting oral traditions, ' opined Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday.

Taking to her Twitter handle on the occasion of World Poetry Day, she said, ' Today is #WorldPoetryDay. Poetry plays a vital role in preserving and transmitting oral traditions. It is all about expression. Poetry depicts life, relations, thoughts and more. In my spare time, I also write a few poems. Sharing with you one of my favourite poems, penned by me. '

In another Tweet on the occasion of World Puppetry Day, Ms Banerjee said, ' #WorldPuppetryDay Putul Naach (Puppet dance) is a rich tradition of #Bangla. In 2015, our govt had dedicated a museum to showcase state’s rich art of puppetry. It displays the work on relevant social themes by about 20 contemporary puppeteers, belonging to backward classes. '

On the occasion of World Planting Day, she tweeted, ' Today is #WorldPlantingDay. In #Bangla, we distributed 15 lakh saplings, to every new born child. This is done under the unique #Sabujshree scheme, to inculcate emotional bonding between child & nature. This also provides an incentive for the future. '
