‎New Delhi, Feb 9 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said he held a telephonic conversation with his Mauritian counterpart Navinchandra Ramgoolam, during which the two leaders reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties between India and Mauritius.
‎In a post on X, Modi described the Mauritian Prime Minister as a “friend” and said the discussion covered the wide-ranging partnership between the two countries since their meeting in Varanasi last year.
‎“Happy to receive a phone call from my friend, Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam. We reviewed progress in the wide-ranging cooperation between India and Mauritius since our memorable meeting in Varanasi last year,” Modi said.
‎The Prime Minister said both sides reiterated their resolve to further deepen the “special, historic and people-centric ties” that link the two nations, which share close cultural, economic and strategic relations.
‎Modi also underlined the shared commitment of India and Mauritius to regional security, saying the two countries would continue to work together to promote peace and stability in the Indian Ocean Region, a key area of strategic interest for New Delhi.
‎“India and Mauritius will continue to work together to achieve shared objectives of peace and stability in the Indian Ocean Region,” he said.
‎As part of ongoing high-level engagement, Modi said he was looking forward to welcoming Ramgoolam to India for the AI Impact Summit scheduled for next week.
‎“I look forward to welcoming him to India for the AI Impact Summit next week,” the Prime Minister added.
‎India and Mauritius have traditionally enjoyed close diplomatic ties, underpinned by strong people-to-people connections, development cooperation and defence partnerships.
