New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) The Akshay Kumar starrer 'padman', which revolves around menstrual health and the need for cheaper and accessible sanitary napkin,has earned over Rs 100 cr at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend, trade sources said on Monday.
The film, which released on February 9, has crossed the Rs 40 cr mark in its opening weekend.
'Padman' earned a total of Rs 40.05 crores (51.26 crore gross) at the box office by the end of its opening weekend.
The movie has collected a total of Rs 57.50 crores (8.9 Million) overseas.
The total earnings of the film now stand at Rs 108.76 crores worldwide .
Directed by R Balki, 'Padman' is based on the real-life incident of Arunachalam Muruganantham—the man whose initiative to invent low-cost sanitary pad making machines in rural India helped not only his wife but other women in his village to lead a hygienic life.
PadMan is Twinkle Khanna’s maiden production venture. It features Akshay in the lead with Radhika Apte playing his on-screen wife. Sonam Kapoor stars in a pivotal role.
PadMan was initially scheduled to be released on Republic Day weekend, clashing with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat and Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary.
However, on Bhansali’s request Akshay Kumar postponed PadMan to give Padmaavat solo release over the weekend. Aiyaary makers too postponed its release.
