'Operation Kamal' CD issue racks Karnataka Assembly and Speaker suggests the State Govt to hold an inquiry by SIT

'Operation Kamal' CD issue racks Karnataka Assembly and Speaker suggests the State Govt to hold an inquiry by SIT

Bengaluru, Feb 11(UNI) Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker, Ramesh Kumar on Monday suggested to the State Government to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to inquire into an audio-tape, allegedly containing corruption charges against the Speaker and others by Opposition leader B S Yeddyurappa, who is also BJP State President.

As soon as the members assembled to take up day's business, the Speaker, against whom the charges were made against him in the Audio Tape, raised the issue and informed the House that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had sent him a letter and also an audio tape, requesting for a probe into the incident.

Setting aside the Question Hour scheduled, the Speaker said that since the audio tape, in which the alleged conversation of few people had a reference to him, he sought the opinion of the house on the matter. The Chief Minister, while sending him the audio tape, also had sent the copies of it to the Media also, truth should come out and hence it is necessary for a probe on the issue.

The Speaker, who became emotional during his address, said that “all these years, I have maintained a high standard of career by maintaining sincerity to the democratic as well as social values and the charges heard in the Audio tape has hurt me a lot. The Audio tape, have contained not only my name, but also that of the Prime Minister and a member of the Parliament, and to bring out a truth on the tape, I direct the Chief minister to hold an inquiry by a SIT and submit the report within 15 days”, he added.

The BJP members, J Madhuswamy, K S Eshwarappa, C T Ravi, P Rajeev, Suresh Kumar (All BJP), A T Ramaswamy JD(S), and ministers, Krishna Byregowda, D K Shivakumar also spoke on the issue and expressed solidarity with the Speaker on the issue.

BJP’s Madhuswamy, however, expressed concern over an attempt made by Mr Kumaraswamy, who could have ignored the incident of the Audio Tape which was allegedly made by an unknown person.

Stating that the probe by any agency, in which the Chief Minister have a say will not bring the truth out, he demanded an inquiry by an neutral agency. “Any probe monitored by Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, who himself responsible for the creation of the Audio will not render justice:” he added.
