"Nino" evokes powerful emotions at Female Focus Screening

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 12 (UNI) French filmmaker Pauline Loques' tender psychological drama 'Nino' struck a deep emotional chord with viewers during its screening on Friday in the Female Focus category at the Kalabhavan Theatre Complex.
The film, anchored by a moving performance from Theodore Pellerin, follows a young man grappling with a sudden cancer diagnosis. Loques explores his emotional turmoil through intimate visuals and delicately crafted scenes, capturing his struggle to share the news with loved ones and moments of quiet breakdown.
Nino subtly highlights the women in the protagonist's life — friends, family, and partners — whose emotional labour shapes the film's gentle feminist tone.
The cinematography, marked by lingering frames and expressive silence, earned widespread appreciation for enriching the film's emotional depth.
Audience response was striking, with many describing the film as deeply empathetic and realistic in its portrayal of vulnerability and relationships. Others praised its immersive visual style and nuanced storytelling.
The screening concluded with prolonged applause and reflective silence, marking Nino as one of the standout titles in the Female Focus lineup.
