‘Men in Black 5’ in development with writer Chris Bremner

Washington, Dec 6 (UNI) The ‘Men in Black’ universe is gearing up for a fifth film, with screenwriter Chris Bremner officially onboard to craft the script. Bremner, known for his work on ‘Bad Boys for Life’ and ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die,’ is expected to bring his action-comedy expertise to the long-running franchise, according to Variety.
It remains unclear whether Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones will return as Agents J and K, the iconic duo who led three of the franchise’s four films. However, Bremner’s successful collaborations with Smith on the ‘Bad Boys’ films could play a role in shaping the new film’s casting direction.
The franchise’s previous reboot attempt came in 2019 with ‘Men in Black: International’, starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. Despite its high-profile cast, the film delivered modest box-office results, earning USD 253.9 million on a budget of over USD 100 million. Even so, Men in Black remains a strong global brand, with the four films together grossing more than USD 1.9 billion worldwide.
Bremner’s credits also include Netflix’s The Man From Toronto, featuring Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson, and the upcoming action thriller ‘Fast & Loose,’ expected to star Will Smith.
First released in 1997, ‘Men in Black’ became a cultural phenomenon thanks to the chemistry between Smith and Jones, followed by sequels in 2002 and 2012.
While Smith has kept a relatively low profile since the Oscars incident, his company Westbrook recently signed a new partnership deal with Paramount, Variety reported.
With two hit Bad Boys films under his belt, earning a combined USD 837.1 million, Bremner has quickly become a sought-after writer for major action-comedy franchises.
His continued work with Smith, including completing Fast & Loose, suggests he may once again play a key creative role in shaping the next chapter of ‘Men in Black.’
