'Govt protecting drug mafia': Goa Congress

Panaji, Jul 21 (UNI) The Congress in Goa on Sunday alleged that the state government was 'sponsoring drug business' and 'protecting drug mafia'.
Addressing a press conference at the party state headquarters in the city, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar said,''Yesterday drugs were seized in the by CCP (Corporation of the City of Panaji) Mayor CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar and his team because Goa Police had no permission to conduct raids on drugs. Goa Chief Minister on record has said that there is no drugs business in the state but fact is that 100 kg Katamine was seized by officials of DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) from a BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) office bearer in the state....It clearly indicates that there is government sponsored drug peddling in Goa. Those who are in drugs business have control over central government to state government.''
Mr Chodankar, who had recently resigned from the post of GPCC President to extend support to Congress National President Rahul Gandhi, termed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's reported statement that parents should also take responsibility if their kids were taking drugs.
