Bengaluru, April 27 (UNI) Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam and a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has stirred the pot with accusations of sabotage against key Congress leaders in Karnataka amid the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
In a televised interview, Sarma specifically targeted Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, suggesting their actions may have undermined the electoral prospects of the Congress party.
Expressing skepticism over the timing and nature of certain issues raised by these leaders, Sarma particularly highlighted the sensitive issue of Muslim reservations. Against the backdrop of simmering public discontent fueled by incidents such as the Neha murder case, allegations of love jihad, and the recent Rameshwaram cafe bomb blast in Karnataka, Sarma questioned the rationale behind resurrecting such contentious topics during the election period.
"I firmly believe that either Mr. Siddaramaiah or DK Shivakumar has orchestrated a deliberate self-sabotage in the Lok Sabha elections. Why else would they choose to reignite the controversial issue of Muslim reservations amidst the already simmering public anger over incidents like the Neha murder case, love jihad allegations, and the recent Rameshwaram cafe bomb blast?" Sarma remarked during the interview.
Sarma, a former Congress leader who defected to the BJP in 2015, also vehemently opposed any potential implementation of what he termed as 'Sharia Law' by the Congress party, asserting that it contradicts Indian cultural values and principles of hard work and property rights.
